- פָּרִישI m. name of a fruit, quince. Tosef.Succ.II, 9; Succ.31a.Pl. פְּרִישִׁים, פְּרִישִׁין. Kil. I, 4 (= חֲבוּשִׁין Maim.); Y. ib. I, 27a, expl. אספרלגין, v. אִיסְפַּרְגַּל. Ib. ולמה … פ׳ שאין לך מין אילן פריש לקדרהוכ׳ why are they called prishin (set aside, excellent)? Because there is no species of fruit so well adapted for cooking as this.
